Jay Z is ready to make waves. The Roc Nation mogul officially announced the launch of TIDAL, the first-ever artist-owned global music entertainment platform, during a star-studded press conference in New York on Monday.

An impressive lineup of artists came together on one stage including Alicia Keys, Arcade Fire, Beyoncé, Daft Punk, Jack White, Jason Aldean, Chris Martin, Calvin Harris, J. Cole, Jay Z, Kanye West, deadmau5, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Usher. Each is considered a founding member and has an equity stake in the streaming company.

In an interview with Billboard, Jay Z revealed that he decided to get into the streaming business about a year-and-a-half ago.

“We didn’t like the direction music was going and thought maybe we could get in and strike an honest blow,” he said, “and if, you know, the very least we did was make people wake up and try to improve the free vs. paid system, and promote fair trade, then it would be a win for us anyway.”

No, this is not a late April Fools’ joke. Two of R&B’s biggest stars have come together on one track. A version of Beyoncé’s “Jealous” has hit the net featuring none other than Chris Brown. It’s unclear when this remix was recorded or if it was intended as the original.

Breezy shares his insecurities while dueting with Bey on the seductive jam. “Queen Bey, I’m trippin’ ’cause I’m a little insecure when your phone go off,” he sings. “So mad I’m drunk texting / Now I’m reminiscing how we fell in love in Texas / Girl, I’m jealous.”

Tupac, New Music Could Be Released Soon (article)

0

2012 Coachella Music Festival - Day 3

A myriad of unreleased tracks were dumped onto the public following the 1996 death of Tupac Shakur in the form of additional albums and a series of mixtapes. But apparently there is still a number of Shakur recordings just waiting to see the light of day. That could happen soon. According to Billboard, a company called JAM Inc. has been working the rapper’s mother, Afeni Shakur, for the last two years and have access to everything in her vault of Tupac material. They plan to put out the material soon.

The company’s recent clients include the Michael Jackson estate, the Doors, Janis Joplin and Otis Redding. According to JAM Inc owner Jeff Jampol the Tupac releases don’t just pertain to new music. There are also “remixes, original demos, writings, scripts, plans, video treatments [and] poems.”

“Some of [the material] is in bits and pieces, some of it is complete; some of it is good, some of it needs work,” said Tom Whalley, who put together Shakur’s Interscope deal and is working with Jampol on putting out the unreleased material. “But I think the work that is left can be completed, and is worth his fans hearing.” There is also a biography in the plans.

Tupac recently made his way back on the scene when his voice was used for a PowerAde commercial featuring Derrick Rose. Kendrick Lamar also recently brought a buzz back to Pac’s name by using a 21-year-old interview with late MC on his recent album To Pimp A Butterfly.

The Grammy Museum currently has a Tupac exhibit on display titled “All Eyez on Me: The Writings of Tupac Shakur.” A biopic about the beloved MC will start filming this summer. It looks like there is much more to come.

Rapper Fabolous returns with the fourth installment of his popular #FridayNightFreestyles series. This time the veteran wordsmith spits some crazy bars over Mobb Deep’s classic song “Shook Ones Part II” from their 1995 album Infamous.

Along with DJ Clue dropping echoic ad-libs, Fabo raps rewindable punchlines and braggadocios lyrics.

“There’s a difference in getting money and got money / I’m just a winner with a pocket full of pot money / I ain’t judging baby, go on and get that thot money / Better save it for a rainy day when it’s not sunny,” he spits.

Near the end, the Brooklyn rhymer closes with a clever reference to Damon Dash’s infamous “I’m a boss” interview with Power 105.1’s Breakfast Club.

“I’ll give it to you n—-s on some AIM blast shit / Then give it to your sons on some Dame Dash s—, boy / You n—-s ain’t bosses anyway / A nine-to-five beat a 10-to-life any day / Get your money,” he raps.

Reactions to Fab’s freestyle were unanimous — he killed it. “Fabolous snapped on that “shook ones” freestyle. S— is flames!! Ma nig!!” he tweeted.
